Merle Barth is a German footballer who plays as a defender and midfielder. She has represented Germany at youth international levels.
In German Bundesliga, she debuted at 16 (in November 2010 in a game between Leverkusen and Duisburg)
In 2011, she won bronze medal at UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship. In third place match, Germany beat Island 8-2. Barth came into play as a substitute in 57th minute. As she had never played for senior national team, this is so far her biggest career success on the international level
She spent most of her career at Bayer 04 Leverkusen (11 years from 2009 to 2020)
She torn her ACL in February 2014. This heavy knee injury caused long pause, back on the pitch she was in February 2015
She has really bad luck on injuries. After one year long without football and her return on the pitch in February 2015, she torn her ACL again in May 2015. This caused another long-term pause - to February 2016
In both of her German teams where she played (Leverkusen and Potsdam), she wore captain's armband
In summer 2022, she moved from Turbine Potsdam to Atlético Madrid. It was her first team outside Germany. "I really wanted to play abroad," Barth commented the transfer
In August 2022, in a friendly game for Atlético Madrid against Bayern Munchen, she broke her right leg and had to undergo surgery. She missed the whole season 2022/2023 and din't play in any league game
In season 2022/2023 her team Atlético Madrid won the Spanish Cup, which is her biggest club level success during her career so far. However, it is bittersweet for her, as she was injured all season long and she couldn't help her team on the pitch
She has older brother (Tom Barth), who is also footballer
