María Natalia Mauleón Piñón is a Mexican footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder and forward. She has represented Mexico at U-17, U-20 and senior level.
Before becoming a professional attacker, she played in boys’ teams and even started out as a goalkeeper.
Her parents were initially reluctant to let her play because they feared she could get hurt, while her brother kept looking for ways to help her stay in the game.
Off the pitch, she likes to draw and paint.
Messi was her childhood idol, partly because women’s football had far less visibility when she was growing up. She knew names like Charlyn Corral and Maribel Domínguez, but did not really have one clear female role model then.
Her long-term dreams is to play for FC Barcelona.
She has a dog named Boo.
