The most expensive signings of the summer? Two record-breaking players are heading to Liga F

The transfer window is still in full swing, and women's footballalready witnessed some big moves. Alexia Putellas to London City Lionesses, Katie McCabe to Chelsea, Georgia Stanway to Arsenal. But this summer has also been interesting from a financial perspective. Real Madrid invested in young talent Felicia Schröder, while Barcelona put their faith in experienced Kerolin from the english champions.

We have already inform about Felicia Schröder's transfer from Swedish champions Häcken to Real Madrid. At the age of 18, the talented Swedish striker became the top scorer in the Damallsvenskan before also conquering the Europa Cup final, where she scored a hat-trick to secure the title for the Gothenburg club. Several WSL clubs were interested in her, but she ultimately agreed to join Real Madrid.

The exact fee was never disclosed, but it is speculated to have been around €1.5 million, surpassing the previous transfer record of $1.5 million (Lizbeth Ovalle to Orlando Pride). Häcken also announced that it was the highest transfer fee in the history of women's football.

Incidentally, these figures clearly show how quickly women's football is developing and how clubs are no longer afraid to invest in it. The transfer record now changes almost every transfer window.

Barcelona Femení may have lost several key players such as Alexia Putellas, Ona Batlle, Mapi León and Salma Paralluelo, but they were not about to be outdone by their biggest rivals. Although both clubs have excellent academies, as demonstrated at the UEFA U19 Women's  European Championship, Barcelona also invested in young talent by signing Renee van Asten from Ajax.

They saved the biggest move for later. Barcelona also spent a significant amount of money by signing Brazilian international Kerolin from Manchester City, the WSL reigning champions. Once again, the exact fee was not disclosed, but according to Sky Sports it was also around €1.5 million, making it the most expensive signing in Barcelona Femení's history as well as Manchester City's record sale.

Satisfaction for both sides

The signing seems more than logical. Barcelona have plenty of talented young players, but after losing so many top-quality footballers they needed to add experience, and Kerolin certainly has it, with experience not only in the WSL but also in Liga F and the NWSL. Her style of play also suits Barcelona and Spanish Liga F perfectly.

Moreover, although she is a very high-quality player, Manchester City will not be significantly weakened by her departure. They still have Bunny Shaw and Vivianne Miedema in the squad, both of whom recently signed new contracts, while young players such as Iman Beney and Aoba Fujino are also establishing themselves.

Record-breaking transfer fees alone do not guarantee success. They do, however, show that Europe's biggest clubs no longer see women's football as a project for the future, but as an area worth investing in right now. Whether it is the 19-year-old Felicia Schröder or the experienced Kerolin, both transfers reflect the same trend. Clubs are willing to pay for quality, potential and immediate impact.

If the current pace of development continues, it is entirely possible that this year's records will not even last until the next transfer window. After all, that was exactly what happened last year, when Olivia Smith's move to Arsenal in July was eventually surpassed by Ovalle's transfer to Orlando Pride.
