Hina Sugita is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for NWSL club Portland Thorns and the Japan national team.
‍Since signing for the Thorns in 2022, Hina Sugita has become a popular fan favorite with her own dedicated fan base known as the “Hina Hive” thanks to her dynamic and exciting ability to stir up trouble against opponent defenses.
She’s represented Japan in three major senior tournaments: the 2019 World Cup, 2020 Olympics, and 2023 World Cup.
When she started playing, it was rare to see girls in soccer in Japan; sometimes she was the only girl on the team.
She feels most comfortable expressing herself through her play rather than words.
She has a dog.
On her off days, she likes to spend time outdoors.
When she first arrived to the US, she didn't know any English and would have English lessons with her teammates right after the training sessions.
