Savannah Mckenzie King is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Angel City FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played one season of college soccer for the North Carolina Tar Heels before being drafted second overall by Bay FC in the 2024 NWSL Draft.
She didn’t start playing soccer until she was ten years old, after trying several other sports like softball, baseball, and flag football.
She is a twin and grew up in West Hills, California, alongside her brother Parker.
Before starting college, she signed a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal with Nike—an unusual feat for a freshman athlete.
She suffered a medical emergency on the field during a match in May 2025 and later underwent successful surgery for a heart abnormality.
As co-captain, she helped the U.S. U-20 team finish third at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup—their best result since 2012.
She has two moms, Carrie and Kim, who both have athletic backgrounds—Carrie was a world-class runner and cyclist, while Kim played basketball.
Running was Savannah’s first sport—she started at age five and was trained by her mom Carrie, who still helps her with workouts and compares times.
She set her high school’s records in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash.
Collapsing on the pitch is never a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, Arsenal's Frida Maanum or Angel City defender Savy King have had such an experience—it happened to her in May this year. Now she has spoken out about her horrific experience.
