Not just Putellas: Seven WSL transfers to watch this season
The English WSL kicks off on 4 September, and we are looking forward to this season more than ever. The transfer window may not be over yet, but there has already been no shortage of wild moves this summer. And it is not just Alexia Putellas joining London City Lionesses. Take a look at our selection of Queenballer's the  most interesting transfers. We are curious to see how these players will fare at their new clubs.
Kirsty Hanson (Tottenham)
With 12 goals and one assist last season, Kirsty Hanson was one of Aston Villaâs driving forces and among the WSLâs top goalscorers. Her departure to north London must be a painful one for the Villans.
Tottenham are coming off one of their best seasons. A club that was fighting relegation has suddenly become a team pushing for the top five. And the arrival of players such as Hanson shows that the clubâs ambitions are high. Alongside Hanson, midfielder Victoria Pelova arrives from their biggest rivals Arsenal, while Selma Panengstuen joins from SK Brann, where Spurs head coach Martin Ho previously worked.
Beth England (Crystal Palace)
When the Spurs captain Beth England said goodbye at the end of the season, after experiencing both a cup final and a relegation battle with the club, there was hardly a dry eye. There was speculation about Brighton or a move to a WSL 2 side, where the experienced striker could help push for promotion to the top flight.
In the end, those rumours were not too far from the truth. England is staying in London, simply swapping north for south as she joins WSL newcomers Crystal Palace. The Eagles are returning to the WSL after a season in WSL 2, and Englandâs experience should help them in their bid to stay in the top flight.
GĂ©raldine Reuteler (Arsenal)
Arsenal have also been busy in the transfer window. The return of midfielder Georgia Stanway to England and the arrival of one of the worldâs best defenders, Ona Batlle, generated plenty of excitement among supporters. But one player who definitely should not be overlooked is Swiss star GĂ©raldine Reuteler.
The long-time Eintracht Frankfurt standout reached the UEFA Women's Europa Cup semi-finals with her team last season, where they were beaten by future winners BK HĂ€cken. Reuteler, however, particularly caught the eye at international level, being named Player of the Match several times at last yearâs home Euros.
 Arsenal were already interested in her last season, but Frankfurt were unwilling to let their player leave. She therefore arrives this year as a free agent. Her biggest strength is her versatility: she can play anywhere in midfield or attack and is also capable defensively.
Mary Earps (London City Lionesses)
London City Lionesses have created plenty of buzz this summer, primarily thanks to the arrivals of Alexia Putellas and Mapi LeĂłn. But one move we definitely should not overlook is the return of former Lionesses number one and Euro 2022 winner Mary Earps.
Earps spent many years at Manchester United before moving to PSG, where she and her team were unable to break OL Lyonnesâ dominance. Things did not go well in Europe either, with PSG finishing bottom of the UEFA Women's Champions League league phase last season with just one point.
Earps may have retired from international football ahead of Euro 2025, but she still has plenty to offer at club level. She will compete for the number one spot in London with Elene Lete, who signed a new contract with LCL shortly before Earpsâ arrival.
Millie Turner (Birmingham City)
It has been a difficult year for the Red Devils. They finished without a trophy and, on top of that, came fourth, meaning next season will be without European football. This summer, they also lost long-serving defender Millie Turner after eight years, alongside her partner and fellow long-time Manchester United player Lisa Naalsund.
Both have brought their experience to Birmingham City. The club was once among the leading forces in English womenâs football and has now returned to the top flight after a long absence. The experience of two important and high-quality players such as Turner and Naalsund should help Birmingham compete with the leagueâs strong sides and stay up. After all, the quality of the WSL continues to grow season after season.
Melvine Malard (Chelsea)
Chelsea were interested in young Swedish star Felicia Schröder and PSGâs RomĂ©e Leuchter this summer. Neither deal, however, worked out. Schröder chose Real Madrid, while Chelsea and the French club could not agree on the fee for the Dutch striker.
But Chelsea fans do not need to be disappointed. They have found a signing who is at least as good as the two names mentioned above. Melvine Malard joins Chelsea from Manchester United, where she was one of their best players, making her departure a major attacking loss for the Red Devils.
Emilie Joramo (Brighton)
Stockholm-based Hammarby know how to develop talent for the highest level. The transfers of promising young players such as Smilla Holmberg (Arsenal), Bella Andersson (Real Madrid) and Cathinka Tandberg (Tottenham) are proof of that. Emilie Joramo is the latest name to join that list.
She said goodbye to Hammarby with a goal in the city derby against AIK. Brighton are coming off a successful season in which they reached the Womenâs FA Cup final for the first time in their history. Signings such as Joramo and Arsenal legend Lia WĂ€lti suggest this may only be the beginning of their rise.
