Andressa Alves da Silva is a Brazilian footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or forward. She has represented Brazil at senior level.
She is from Parada de Taipas, in São Paulo’s north zone, and calls the neighborhood the place where she learned the “street smarts” of football.
Before she had a proper ball, she used doll heads as footballs. Nike later turned that childhood story into “The Doll I’ve Never Asked For,” a campaign built around girls who want football more than dolls.
She grew up playing on boys’ teams because girls’ teams were not available around her.
Andressa was the first Brazilian woman to play for FC Barcelona.
She is married to former Brazil player Francielle, known as Fran. They met in 2012 when they faced each other in the Copa do Brasil.
