Aubrey Renee Kingsbury, born Bledsoe, is an American professional football player who plays as a goalkeeper for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League and the United States national team.
She is Christian. She says it helps her find balance while the life of a professional athlete can be self-centered.
She used to write articles for The Increase; an online magazine where professional athletes share stories of how their Christian faith impacts their lives and careers.
She also played basketball in high school.
Her twin sister, Amber, also played football. She was a goalkeeper at Brown University.
She has a degree in Health and Exercise Science and minors in chemistry and biology from Wake Forest University.
She married her husband, Matt, in 2021 and took his last name, Kingsbury. Her birth name was Bledsoe.
She can play the piano because her mom is a piano teacher.
The only piano song she has memorized is Hero from the original Spider-Man movie.
She finds Christmas songs on the piano “wholesome,” and she loves playing them around the holidays.
Aubrey and her twin sister auditioned for the reality TV show The Amazing Race but haven’t been accepted yet, even after making a tape and going to an open casting call.
Growing up, she went through career phases wanting to be a doctor, an astronomer, a pro basketball player, and even an architect.
She became the sixth goalkeeper in NWSL history to achieve 10,000 career regular season minutes, 400 career saves, and 30 regular season clean sheets.
Her favorite Spirit memory is winning the NWSL Championship in 2021.
She looked up to Bri Scurry from the 99ers growing up, especially since there weren’t many women’s football players on TV, and now it’s a privilege to know her personally through the Spirit.
For the men’s game, she considers Lionel Messi the greatest football player.
In women’s football, she admires Lauren Cheney (now Holiday), both as a person and for her remarkable though short career.
Her first concert was Rascal Flatts in Cincinnati, Ohio, during high school, and she enjoys country music, especially live performances.
She wishes she could learn Spanish or French, especially with so many international teammates.
Her first job was delivering papers for a community journal and working as a football referee.
Her favorite movie is Italian Job, an action film that inspired her love for Mini Coopers, a dream she achieved by owning one in 2017.
Her favorite subject was recess when she was younger, and though she considered going into medicine, she ended up sticking with football after realizing it was a better fit.
To relax away from football, she likes going out with friends for a coffee, hiking, or paddleboarding.
After buying a house, she also realized she enjoys yard work and house maintenance on her days off.
She likes to play lawn games, such as corn hole or bucket golf.
She and her husband sponsor a girl named Rose in Tanzania.
