Rebeca Bernal Rodríguez is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or centre back for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and captains the Mexico women's national team.
She was the only girl on her youth team, Escuela de Futbol Cruz Azul, when she started playing around the age of seven.
At just 14 years old, she moved to Monterrey to study psychology at the prestigious Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.
Bernal was one of the foundational players of CF Monterrey when Liga MX Femenil launched in 2017.
She captained Monterrey and became a club legend before transferring abroad. Monterrey retired her #4 jersey in a historic tribute.
In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, watching Netflix, going for coffee, eating at restaurants, and watching movies.
Her favorite food is tacos.
Her typical coffee order is a latte or cappuccino.
She listens to various music genres, with reggaeton being her favorite. Some of her preferred artists include Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma.
If she had to enter a stadium to a hype song, it would be “Mbappé.”
She once had a piano as a kid and says she’d love to pick it back up again someday.
Her football role models are a mix — she admires Rodri’s midfield skills, Messi’s natural brilliance, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s unmatched discipline and work ethic.
If she could bring three things from her hometown to Washington, D.C., they’d be her family, the local food, and the beach.
