Hensley Elaine Hancuff is an American professional soccer goalkeeper for the North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League.
She was born and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, and was a competitive gymnast as a child.
At seven, she outgrew gymnastics and switched to soccer because all her friends were playing.
Her goalkeeping career began unexpectedly in elementary school when a teammate was injured.
She finished high school online, allowing her to train with Orlando Pride while still a student.
At 17, she underwent laparoscopic surgery to remove two ovarian tumors but recovered in time for college soccer.
Despite being highly independent, she credits her mom and younger brother for keeping her going through tough times.
Drafted 34th overall in 2022 by Gotham FC, she later played a full season on loan in Australia with Brisbane Roar.
She won Brisbane Roar’s 2023 Player’s Player of the Year award, becoming the third American to earn the honor.
She has represented the U.S. at the U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20, and U-23 levels.
She also played voleyball in high school.
One of her first pro experiences included singing songs in Portuguese in the shower with Marta and Alex Morgan.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Communication and an MBA from Clemson University.
She co-owns Proximo Careers, a recruiting agency dedicated to helping retiring athletes transition into their next careers, with a focus on sports, media, front-office operations, and career development.
