Jayde Yuk Fun Riviere is a Canadian professional football player who plays as a right-back for Women's Super League club Manchester United and the Canada women's national team.
She was introduced to football by her dad at the age of three.
She hated the repetitive drills her dad made her do, but they built her football foundation. He pushed her to train hard for multiple hours a day, and she even missed birthday parties and family events for football training.
Her father was born in Dominica, and her mother was born in Hong Kong. She talks about the importance of understanding her roots and heritage.
She listens to Soca music and steel drums on the way to training.
She regularly returns to her youth club Markham SC to help with football camps.
She was honored in her hometown of Markham when the mayor declared August 6 to be "Jayde Riviere Day" in Markham after Canada's gold medal victory at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She would like to set up a football academy for girls in Dominica.
She also played volleyball, flag football, and did track and field in high school.
She majored in Movement Science in the Kinesiology Program at the University of Michigan.
Her biggest role models have become her current teammates after growing up watching the Canadian team on TV.
She has a ritual of always putting her equipment on right to left.
She likes to collect keychains from her travels.
Her favorite motto is: "You can’t control the uncontrollable. Control what you can control."
She has a football field named after her in her hometown.
She has been mentored by several veteran players, especially Christine Sinclair and Stephanie Labbé.
