Maya Le Tissier is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Women's Super League club Manchester United, whom she captains, and the England national team.
She grew up on the channel island of Guernsey.
She began playing football at the age of four for local boys' club St. Martins A.C., coached by her father, Darren. She played there for twelve years.
She was the first female player to compete for Guernsey's under-16 boys' team.
She had to fly from Guernsey to Hampshire just to play in a girls' team.
She made her debut for Brighton's senior team at just 16 years old.
Her long-term goals and dreams are to captain England and win World Cups and Euros.
Her worst habit is that she sometimes speaks without thinking.
Her favorite phrase is 'Everything happens for a reason.' It helps her keep things in perspective.
Her favorite holiday was in Barbados.
She has a quirky pre-match superstition—she swapped her pre-match meal from porridge to Coco Pops and now sticks with that. She also always eats pasta the night before a game and a banana begore a game and clicks her neck twice in the tunnel before going out onto the pitch.
She likes to listen to an album called We the Generation by Rudimental. Her and her dad always listened to it in the car, it reminds her of home and puts her at ease.
Her worst fear is spiders.
She is often asked if she is related to football legend Matt Le Tissier. Despite the name and being from the same island, their families are not related but they know each other and her father played football with Matt.
She has a dog whom she loves to come home to at the end of the day.
She scored two goals on her Manchester United debut.
