Nina Räcke is a German footballer who plays as a centre-back for Frauen-Bundesliga club Hamburger SV. She has previously played for RB Leipzig, SGS Essen, and VfL Wolfsburg II.
She grew up playing football with her two brothers and was often the only girl on her teams.
She returned to her old kindergarten to teach and play football with the children.
She spent eight years at her hometown club SV Theeßen before moving to a sports boarding school in Magdeburg.
As a teenager, she fulfilled a dream by signing her first Bundesliga contract at just 18 years old.
She has studied energy and water management since her time at SGS Essen. While playing for RB Leipzig, she split her time between football and her studies at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences.
She often attended an internship at a local wastewater treatment plant on the same days as Leipzig trainings.
She never planned to become a pro — she says, “I didn’t even realize that being a professional footballer was possible until it actually happened.”
