Pauline Annette Machtens is a German professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Frauen-Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.
She progressed through Bayer Leverkusen's youth teams.
After finishing school in 2021, she moved to the United States to study Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University.
In the U.S., she played 32 college games for Syracuse Orange, scoring four goals.
She grew up playing football in the garden with her three older brothers.
As a child she originally played quite a bit of tennis, partly because her mother was hesitant about football initially.
Pauline is the unofficial cabin DJ for HSV women’s team during the week, running her playlist “Paulis Allerlei.”
She listens to music constantly, saying there are hardly moments without it in her life.
She attended school choir in high school and played the recorder.
In 2025 she was officially made captain of the HSV women’s team.
