Daiane Limeira Santos Silva, commonly known as Daiane Limeira or simply Daiane, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a defender for American club Portland Thorns FC and the Brazil women's national team.
She joined CD Tacón in 2019, which later became Real Madrid Femenino, making her part of the club’s inaugural women’s team.
Her career was interrupted by three knee surgeries during her time in Spain, but she made a strong comeback with Madrid CFF and later Flamengo.
Daiane comes from a family with 18 siblings. When she turned professional, she prioritized sending money home to help her parents buy a house.
Her household is so big that they use giant school-sized cooking pots for meals.
Before focusing on football, she played futsal competitively in her teens, showcasing her agility and footwork early on.
At 16, she passed a trial with Centro OlĂmpico in SĂŁo Paulo but couldn’t afford the move, leading her to join Kindermann’s U-17 team instead.
She saw football as a way to achieve social mobility for her large family.
She has fulfilled a childhood dream by playing alongside her idols like Marta, Cristiane, and Formiga.
She started playing football on the streets when she was 14 years old.
If asked what makes her happy, Daiane’s answer is simple: food. Her favorite thing to buy is also food.
