Danielle Marie Weatherholt is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the North Carolina Courage in the National Women's Soccer League.
She captained her club team for seven out of nine years, showing early leadership skills.
She started all 85 games during her college career at Santa Clara and earned multiple academic and athletic honors.
She won her first pro title (W-League Premiership) during a loan to Melbourne Victory in 2018–19.
She scored in her very first match for the North Carolina Courage in March 2024.
She was one of only five active NWSL players to help renegotiate the league’s collective bargaining agreement in 2024.
Her coach at North Carolina Courage literally called her a "Swiss Army knife" due to her adaptability and utility on the field. She can play as a midfielder, center back, or left back.
She is passionate about reducing plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly habits among her teammates.
She loves to golf on her off-days.
Alongside teammate Kaleigh Kurtz, she pushed for the installation of a water bottle filling station in the locker room area at WakeMed Soccer Park.
She finds joy in the little things – A morning coffee, coming home to her dog, and small acts of kindness from strangers bring her joy.
She majored in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Elementary Education and Pre-Teaching at Santa Clara University. Alongside her teaching focus, she minored in Environmental Studies.
She has a daily wellness routine – Her rituals include journaling, meditating, and doing a yoga flow to help her stay present and focused.
She follows a plant-based diet.
She didn’t make her youth club’s “A” team and spent six years on the “B” team of the SoCal Blues. She was repeatedly told she was too small, too slow, and not good enough—but she refused to quit.
Before every game, her dad brought her a banana and a Snickers. He didn’t focus on talent—only on effort.
She is passionate about photography and shares beautiful portraits and landscapes on her Instagram profile.
