Erica Meg Parkinson is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder. Born in Singapore, she has represented England from under-16 to under-23 level and received her first senior Lionesses call-up in March 2026.
She studied business, economics and psychology while developing as a professional footballer in Portugal.
One of her long-term ambitions is to establish herself at senior international level and potentially play at a home Women’s World Cup in 2035.
She speaks four languages: English, Japanese, Portuguese and French.
At just 12 years old, Parkinson began working with a specialist mindset coach to improve how she handles pressure and performs in important moments.
Erica is known for braiding her England teammates’ hair during international camps.
Her father is a devoted Manchester United fan, and he was the person who first sparked her love of football.
Her mother is Japanese and her father is English, giving Parkinson a multicultural family background from the start.
She was already kicking a football around with her father and brother from roughly two or three years old.
Lionel Messi is her favourite player. She also singled out Bruno Fernandes as a Portuguese player she particularly admires.
Her women’s football inspirations include Kika Nazareth and Aitana BonmatĂ. She particularly admires BonmatĂ's technique and ability to read the game.
Journalling is part of her performance routine. She uses it alongside consistent routines and mental strategies designed to help her reset quickly after mistakes.
The NWSL took a month-long break in June while the 2027 FIFA Men’s World Cup took over stadiums and training grounds across the country. Many clubs saw this hiatus as an opportunity to improve their squads as they signed new players from both inside and outside of the league. How will some of these acquisitions impact their new teams?
When manager Sarina Wiegman called up relatively unknown 17-year-old midfielder Erica Meg Parkinson to the Lionesses’ April 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches, women’s football fans were intrigued and curious. Although she has yet to earn her first cap for the senior squad, Parkinson has been making waves, most recently after signing a four-year contract with the North Carolina Courage of the NWSL. Who is this promising wonderkind drawing attention from all over the world?
