Emma Koivisto

Koivisto started playing football when she was six years old.

She played boys’ football for seven years after joining SAPA because girls’ pathways in Finland were still limited at the time.

Football runs in the family: her older brother played and her father also played for fun, which helped shape her early path in the game.

She spent her college years at Florida State and was surprised by how little she initially knew about the American college game.

She said Florida State’s facilities were better than what many professional teams in Europe could offer.

In high school, music became more important to her, and she listened to Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and London Grammar.

Liverpool felt like a family move for her, and she joined the club as a childhood fan who used to watch Sami Hyypiä with her brother.

She made her Finland senior debut in 2012 and had reached 100 caps by July 2024.

Alongside her football career, Emma is also a proud mom. She and her partner, former Finland international Anna Auvinen, welcomed their daughter, Nella, on 28 October 2025.
