Mama Diop is a Senegalese international centre-forward for RC Strasbourg Alsace in France’s Arkema Première Ligue and captain of the Senegal national team.
She began kicking a ball when she was six years old, and trained initially with boys.
Her father played a key supportive role in her early career: she recalls that he was the one who bought her first football boots.
When she joined Olympique de Marseille in 2022, she described it as a dream come true, in part because her father was a big fan of OM; signing for OM was emotionally meaningful for both of them.
She is often the first player out to warm up and the last to leave the gym, with staff and teammates highlighting her as an “exemplary professional” whose preparation rubs off on younger players.
She was once the only fully professional Senegalese women's player abroad.
