Saskia Matheis is a German footballer who plays as a midfielder for Frauen Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
She developed at 1. FFC Frankfurt (later Eintracht) where she played for 15 seasons before joining Werder Bremen in 2022
She represented Germany at U15 through U20 levels, winning the U17 European Championship in 2014, and scoring in the U20 World Cup.
She became a member of Common Goal in March 2023—donating 1% of her salary to education and gender-equality project.
She co-produces Kick & Blush podcast with Vera Klingebiel, discussing women’s football and societal issues.
She began playing football at just four years old on a boys' team.
While studying, she represented Goethe University Frankfurt at the 2019 European University Championship in Madrid. Her team finished second, and she was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
After completing a commercial apprenticeship at the Hessian Football Association, she studied Sports and German to become a teacher.
She’s part of Lpstck Crw, a group of women footballers from various leagues working to challenge social stigma and inspire girls to pursue their dreams.
She became passionate and ambitious in football when she was told as a child that she doesn't belong there as a girl and she should give it up.
Her role models are Mega Rapinoe, Simone Laudehr and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
She loves to play golf on her days off.
